Statement from Jim Walden on Sentencing of William Anderson in Newsweek Fraud Case

Brought by the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office

“Today New York State Supreme Court Justice Ruth Pickholz upheld the true spirit of justice in the sentencing of William Anderson in the $40 million Newsweek fraud case brought by the Manhattan District Attorney. We are grateful for this reasoned decision that sentences our client to five years’ probation and 300 hours of community service, with no fine, in light of the fact that Mr. Anderson fully repaid all of the loans that were in question. Judge Pickholz demonstrated exemplary wisdom in balancing the facts of the case against Mr. Anderson’s lifelong commitment to community service in the defense of religious freedoms, both here in the U.S. and around the world.”
