The United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit has appointed WMH Senior Counsel Jacob Gardener to serve on its Pro Bono Panel. He will serve a three-year term.
The panel was created in 2005 so that parties who cannot afford representation may bring appeals which the Court finds to be important and meritorious. Sua sponte or on a pro se appellant’s motion, panel members are appointed in civil appeals presenting issues of first impression or complex issues of law or fact. Substantive issues include prisoner civil rights, discrimination, immigration, labor and employment, Social Security, and tax law.
The Pro Bono Panel application process is highly selective and Panel members include many well-known appellate specialists.
