Law360 Healthcare Authority has spotlighted a series of class actions led by WMHW Partner Jake Gardener that challenge major insurers over so-called “ghost” mental health provider networks. The suits allege that insurers publish directories full of providers who are not actually available to treat patients, leaving people in crisis to navigate long lists of dead ends instead of accessing timely in-network care.

Jake, who serves as lead counsel on several of these cases, explained that the litigation is designed to “force insurance companies to comply with their legal obligations” and called the barriers created by inaccurate directories “especially cruel” for people already in crisis.
