John Keller Speaks at Fordham Law Symposium on Trust in the Justice Department

New York Law Journal

Walden Macht Haran & Williams LLP partner John Keller recently spoke at Fordham Law School’s Preserving Democracy symposium, where legal experts discussed current challenges facing democratic institutions and the rule of law.

During a panel titled “Abusing the Justice Department,” Keller shared insights on the long-term implications of declining public trust in the U.S. Department of Justice.

A former Chief of the DOJ’s Public Integrity Section, Keller discussed how diminished credibility could affect the prosecution of complex public corruption cases and public confidence in the justice system.

“It was already hard to do public corruption, high-profile cases under normal circumstances,” Keller said. “Now, you have layered on top of that a Department of Justice that no longer gets the benefit of the doubt.”

The panel was part of a symposium hosted by Fordham Law School’s Voting Rights & Democracy Project and the American Bar Association Standing Committee on Election Law.
